People often ask how to remove the indentations furniture has left on their carpet…
You may have just moved into your home, or perhaps you have re-arranged your furniture. Now you have frustrating indentations from where the old furniture sat. Whilst these indentations are a perfectly normal phenomenon in carpet, they can be annoying.
Sometimes, the situation is self-correcting when the furniture is moved and the carpet backings and pile are allowed to re-acclimate. In other cases, in addition to vacuuming, you could try some gentle brushing of the affected areas. But the emphasis is on being gentle. You do not want to damage the carpet fibres. In more extreme cases, the indentation can be covered with a damp towel and steamed with an iron for a few seconds, followed by brushing while warm to “resurrect” the pile in that area. Nylon carpet pile responds particularly well to this procedure.
